The CSEC results give Guyana the leading edge in the region

Dear Editor,

Guyana has come out tops in the CSEC examinations for yet another year. Guyanese students have again proven to the world that we are committed to the task and that we will do our best, and then success will come. Success, the likes of which we have grown accustomed to over the years does not come by accident; it comes from positive, determined and futuristic thinking. Thanks to the hard work coming from our parents, teachers and students alike we can again see the fruits of our labours. I say thanks again to the Ministry of Education and by extension the Government of Guyana for facilitating this success story.

Had it not been for them where would our country be? It is thanks to their visionary work in education that we have been given the leading edge in the region.

Guyana’s success has caused us to be the envy of the rest of the Caribbean Community, and they are trying to catch up.

However, amidst celebration we have to pause somewhat and reflect on our performance in Mathematics and English.

This year these two areas have shown not too good percentages, especially Mathematics which went a few points downwards. This is an area we have to work on ‒ I think the ministry has already put systems in place to address this ‒ that come next year we will see improved results in these subjects.  The charlatans and naysayers have run away with these statistics, but try as they would they cannot sully the otherwise excellent results of our country.

I close by saying let us rally around our students, our hope, our future as we travel along this academic road.

Yours faithfully,
Neil Adams
