Those seeking office should be the ones to promote an election

Dear Editor,

It is sad but true that student politics at UG has achieved a new low.  Imagine student parties on the campus, who are supposed to reach the students in their campaign to canvass votes, reported to the press that the low turnout was as a result of “Ms King not doing more to promote the elections.” Who can better promote an election than the 3 presidential candidates and the 63 faculty representatives who are seeking office?

Let it be known that the university administration facilitates the election out of its students’ Welfare Office which is manned by one officer and two clerical staff.

Blame-casting is no substitute for the hard work that mobilizing students and gaining their confidence requires.

Yours faithfully,
