Melanie Damishana streets in terrible condition

Dear Editor,

I have been a resident of Melanie Damishana on the East Coast Demerara for about seven years now, and I as well as other residents have a problem with the condition of the streets. When it rains our children have to be lifted out of the streets because of the very big potholes.

Once a so-called contractor did something like putting sand and some stones on the roads, and then put tar and expected that to hold. By the time the end of the year came we were back to square one ‒ no difference. The question is how much money does the government pay these people to do this kind of work? Now money has to be wasted again for the same spot.

Next, we also need streets lights because it’s very dangerous at night and very dark. Secondly, if street names were put up it would help in terms of the condition of a street. I think whoever is responsible for this should make checks on the work contractors do.

We, the people of Melanie, would be very grateful if someone could just come and take a good look at our streets.

Yours faithfully,
