Stags deny move for superstar Gayle

NAPIER, New Zealand,  CMC – Central Districts have quashed reports West Indies batting star Chris Gayle will be brought in for the final two games of the domestic Twenty20 Championship.

The Stags have lost all three matches of the competition and are in a dire need of a lift, especially after their English star Peter Trego suffered a stomach injury on Boxing Day that has ruled him out of the remainder of the competition.

The left-handed Gayle is currently on contract with Sydney Thunder in the Australian Big Bash but there has been speculation he would arrive late in the campaign but chief executive Hugh Henderson shot down these suggestions.

“It would be nice to have a guy like that coming in but from where I sit at the moment, there is no signed agreement with anyone and these things take ages,” he said.

Pressed on whether a Gayle deal was definitely far-fetched, Henderson stressed: “I think it is.”

Gayle is one of the most exciting commodities on the international T20 circuit, and is in demand by some of the world’s leading sides.

However, he has been in poor form for Sydney in the ongoing Big Bash, managing just 70 runs from five innings.
