HOBART, Tasmania, CMC – There was no glory for West Indies pinch-hitter Kieron Pollard but his Adelaide Strikers still managed to whip Hobart Hurricanes by 38 runs to move into firm contention for a place in the Big Bash League semi-finals here yesterday.
The right-handed Pollard made just nine in Adelaide’s 162 for four off 20 overs, after the visitors won the toss and batted at Bellerive Oval.
Opener Michael Klinger kept the innings together with a top score of 71 not out, anchoring half-century stands of 59 with Callum Ferguson (32) for the third wicket and 70 with Nathan Reardon (29) for the fourth wicket.
Batting at number three, Pollard top-edged left-arm seamer Doug Bollinger for six to the point boundary but perished in the next over when he hit across a straight one from fast bowler Evan Gulbis and was bowled.
Pollard failed to score in his last innings against Melbourne Renegades three days ago.
In reply, Hobart were restricted to 124 for eight off their 20 overs.
Adelaide are now third in the standings but level on eight points with three other teams. They play their final game against Perth Scorchers next Thursday.
