Demerara, who defeated Essequibo on Saturday, maintained their unbeaten run in the tournament with consistent batting from the top order supported by their bowlers.

Batting first upon winning the toss Demerara openers Shemroy Barrington and Rajendra Chandrika provided a solid foundation by putting on 92 for the first wicket before Barrington was dismissed by Raj Nanan for 43 from 80 balls, with three fours.

Chanderpaul Hemraj then joined his Everest teammate and the pair took the score to 144 before Hemraj was run out for 28 from 39 balls, an innings which included four boundaries.

Chandrika was next to be dismissed for the top score of 63 made from 103 balls with two fours and an equal number of sixes.

His departure, with the score on 153, started a slide which saw Demerara losing four wickets for the addition of only 23 runs and it was left to Zaheer Mohamed to ensure the President’s XI were required to score an even 200 for victory.

Mohamed scored 25 from 21 deliveries with two sixes.

Bowling for the President’s XI Eugene La Fleur picked up 2 for 38, Brandon Bess 1 for 30, Nanan 1 for 36 and Steven Latcha 1 for 37.

The President’s XI batsmen never got going as the Demerara bowlers all proved difficult to get away with Devon Clements top scoring with an unbeaten 27 and being the only batsman to reach double figures.

Clements’s 27 came from 53 balls and included one four and one six. Four of the President’s XI batsmen failed to get off the mark.

The President’s XI batsmen found themselves quickly on the back foot in their chase when Tagenarine Chanderpaul, who scored a half century against Berbice on Saturday, was the first to be dismissed with the score on 12, caught behind off Paul Wintz and two runs later Kevon Boodie was run out.

Elton Baker was next to go bowled by Wintz in the eighth over while Anthony Bramble and Krishna Arjune joined the procession back to the dressing room as Amir Khan dismissed them both in quick succession.

The innings folded for 71 in 30.4 overs as Hemraj and Mohamed mopped up the tail to complete the demolition.

Amir Khan finished with 2 for 7, and Hemraj and Wintz had identical figures of 2 for 8 while Mohamed finished with 2 for 15.
