T&T top standings with crushing win over Leewards

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad,  CMC – A ruthless Trinidad and Tobago stormed to the top of the Caribbean Twenty20 standings on Wednesday night after clobbering hapless Leeward Islands by 95 runs in a lopsided affair.

The defending champions rattled up 187 for four off their 20 overs, the highest score of the tournament, after they were sent in at Queen’s Park Oval in the night’s feature contest.

Stylish stroke-maker Darren Bravo dazzled with an unbeaten 65 from 40 balls while opener Lendl Simmons hammered a belligerent 62 from 46 balls.

Leeward Islands were never in the hunt, especially after losing two wickets in the first over of their reply, and drifted to 92 for eight to slide to their second straight defeat.

Medium pacer Kieron Pollard (2-6), leg-spinner Samuel Badree (2-13) and left-arm spinner Yannick Ottley (2-18), all finished with two wickets apiece.

With the victory, T&T moved to nine points, one ahead of Barbados, with Jamaica in third on five and Guyana fourth on four points.
