PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC-Front runners Trinidad and Tobago are trying to guard against complacency as they prepare to continue their campaign for a hat trick of titles in the Caribbean T20 tournament.
The back-to-back defending champions are tournament leaders after three comfortable victories following their opening fixture which was abandoned because of rain.
“One thing we have to be sure about is that complacency does not set in,” said Coach David Williams.
“We are playing well at the moment and we want to continue playing well and once we keep our heads we will continue to do that.”
The Trinidadians are due to play two more matches in the round robin phase of the competition which has now moved to St. Lucia following earlier games in Port-of-Spain.
Trinidad and Tobago now top the table on 13 points after ending their home games with a commanding win over Guyana in front a 20,000 strong crowd at the Oval.
“You know how T20 goes…you could play good today and mess up tomorrow. We played with some consistency,” Williams told the Express.
“We are confident at the moment and we have two tough games in St Lucia—Windwards and Barbados—so we are just taking it one stride at a time.”
According to new tournament rules, the team which tops the preliminary round will advance to the Grand Final on Sunday at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
The second and third placed teams will meet in the play-off on Saturday.
The winner of the play-off will advance to the final.
