Edwards’ spell proves costly for Riders

KHULNA, Bangladesh, CMC – West Indies fast bowler Fidel Edwards proved very expensive as his Rangpur Riders went down by nine runs to Khulna Royal Bengals in the Bangladesh Premier League here Friday.

The right-armer sent down his four overs for 46 runs as the Bangals, winning the toss and batting, rattled up 150 for seven from their allotted 20 overs at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium.

Edwards removed New Zealander Lou Vincent for two with the third ball of the contest in an over that cost 11 runs and gave up just four runs in his second over.

However, he returned to bowl the 11th over which leaked 19 runs and he also bowled the 18th which cost 12 runs.

Captain Shahriar Nafees top scored with 53 while England seamer Dimitri Mascarenhas picked up three for 23.

In their turn at the crease, the Riders got a top knock of 70 not out from Nasir Hossain but no one else came to the party.

The loss was the second for Edwards’ Riders who are fourth in the standings with four points from as many games.
