J/ca to start without Pagon, Parchment

KINGSTON, Jamaica,  CMC- Jamaica’s national coach Junior Bennett says two of the country’s leading players, Donovan Pagon and Brenton Parchment, may not be available for the first half of the West Indies Four-Day and Super50 cricket season.

The pair has been left out of the squads ahead of next week’s start of the tournaments.

“Pagon has requested some time to deal with some matters overseas, while Parchment is in Australia on a contract playing cricket,” said Bennett.

“We are expecting Pagon to return sooner rather than later, while we are awaiting details as it relates to Parchment’s contract,”

The 30-year-old Pagon has represented the West Indies in two Tests in early 2000.

He finished among the top three scorers of the four-dayers last season amassing 544 runs including a century against the Leewards at Sabina Park, and four half-centuries.

Parchment, also 30 and who has played two Tests and seven ODIs, was the team’s most consistent opener.

Pagon and Parchment played lead roles in Jamaica claiming a record fifth straight hold on the four-day title last season.
