Windwards seek to stretch lead against Guyana

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC- Front runners Windward Islands will aim to stretch their lead when they play Guyana at home as the WICB regional four-day competition enters the third round with matches in three venues today.

The Windwards with 24 points after outright victories over Combined Campuses and Colleges and Trinidad and Tobago take on lowly placed Guyana at the Arnos Vale playing field in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Guyana, on six points after drawing with Leeward Islands and losing to Barbados, will be taking on a windward’s outfit led by the in-form opener Devon Smith who has already recorded three centuries this season including two in the four day tournament.

Over at Warner Park in St. Kitts, Trinidad and Tobago has suffered a setback as they try to rebound from an outright defeat at the hands of table toppers windward’s.

They will be without promising pacer Shannon Gabriel, exciting opener Lendl Simmons and the in-form batsman Jason Mohammed when they meet lowly placed Leeward Islands.

Gabriel and Simmons have been called up to represent the West Indies in the T20 series against Bangladesh this weekend while Mohammed is suffering from a strained hamstring.

In the third match, Barbados will seek to improve their position when they play at home to Combined Campuses and Colleges.

The match will be played at the 3ws oval in Barbados.

The Bajans are on 12 points after beating Guyana and losing to defending champions Jamaica.
