GRFU to stage Mash U14 schools tournament

In keeping up with its five-year youth development programme which started in 2010 the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has once again collaborated with a corporate entity to stage a schools tournament.

Yesterday the GRFU, through its Youth Development Officer (YDO) and tournament coordinator, Troy Yhip and representatives from Hamson’s General Store teamed up to launch the GRFU/Hamson’s Under-14 Mashramani tournament.

The one-day tourney  which will kick off next Thursday at the National Park Rugby field will see five high school teams from Tutorial High School, North Georgetown Secondary, St John’s College, Covent Gardens and Marian Academy vying for trophies and medals.

The competition is only open to beginners and is set to kick off at 11:00hrs.

During the launching at Hamson’s on Regent Street, Yhip expressed his gratitude to the company for the tournament’s sponsorship.  One of Hamson’s managers, Emilia Nwankwo said that the company was happy to be playing a role in the development of sport at the grassroots level and also wished the tournament a success.

Previous youth tournaments were sponsored by Geddes Grant, Sterling Products and Dyna’s Embroidery.
