Tennis festival at Racquet Centre today in aid of World Tennis Day

The Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) will join the rest of the world in celebrating World Tennis Day today with a Tennis Festival for young children at the Racquet Centre.

According to a press release from the GLTA, the activity, which starts from 9am, will feature a number of junior players from a number of clubs and primary schools.

Vice President of the GLTA Grace McCalman said: “Guyana looks forward to celebrating World Tennis Day as a way to put a spotlight on tennis participation and encourage new interest.

“It’s an event that can be spread across Guyana in years to come to exhibit our young talent and grow tennis in a big way to help the sport to get the attention it deserves,” she added.

Among the events planned for today are tennis clinics for beginners, intermediate and advance players.

Also, a few of Guyana’s top juniors will participate in exhibition matches.
The International Tennis Federation in collaboration with StarGames launched this day to promote the sport worldwide and attract new players.

According to the release a number of world rated players will be involved in exhibitions games around the world among them Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro.
