Chandrika slams double century as Everest whips TSC

Rajendra Chandrika slammed a double century to lead Everest Cricket Club to an innings and 73-run victory over Transport Sports Club last weekend in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) Hadi’s first division competition at Camp Road.

Everest won and bated in the familiarity of home conditions compiling  385 for 2 declared in just 66 overs. Chandrika feasted on a bowling attack with an unbeaten 220, which included 23 fours and three sixes, while Chanderpaul Hemraj enjoyed a welcome return to form with 112, which included 10 fours and five sixes.

TSC, in their first innings, fell for 177 in 50 overs. Sherwin Lovell scored 44 and Marvin Cato 24. Leg spinner Amir Khan reaped 6-39 in 18 overs while Troy Gonsalves supported with 3-70.

Following on, Transport were dismissed for 135 in 29.4 overs. Lovell reached an even 50 while former Guyana Under 19 all-rounder Clive Andries scored 31. Gonsalves claimed 5-60 bowling while took Khan 2-39.

At Bourda, Police Sports Club (PSC) and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) played to a draw.

Batting first, PSC made 189 all out in 54 overs. Jason Heyliger scored 59 while Rawle Brown made 44 and Pernell London 42.

GCC’s Gavin Singh took 5-24 from 12 overs, Devon Lord took 2-19 and Treon Forde 2-72.

GCC responded with 289 all out in 51 overs thanks to a whirlwind 163 from Robin Bacchus, an innings that was free of sixes but included 19 fours. The next highest score came from Singh, who made 25.

Police fared better in their second innings reaching 220/9 in 73 overs to avoid an outright defeat.

Trevor Benn contributed 44 while Heyliger and Reginald Rodrigues made 41 apiece and Rawle Brown 33.

Gavin Singh completed a nine wicket match haul by grabbing 4-49 while  Bacchus prized out 3-35.

In Queenstown, the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) made 310 for 9 declared off 84.1 overs  in their first innings against Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) with national Under-17 wicketkeeper batsman Kemal Savory following up his ton last weekend with 96. Savory struck 13 fours and two sixes receiving valuable support from ex Test batsman Travis Dowlin, who made 60. National Under 19 opener Brian Sattaur scored 40 in DCC’s formidable score. Ranole Bourne took 3 for 80 for GNIC who were bowled out for 170 inside 56.4 overs, with Marc Nicholson’s 87 being the only score of note.

Left arm seamer Andre Stoll claimed 5 for 35 while Kevin George took 3 for 32 and Dexter George 2 for 20 for DCC, who in their hunt for quick runs slumped to 74 for 9 in their second innings. Andrew Lyght Jr., reached 38 and Stoll 19.

Chairman of the Guyana Cricket Board senior selection committee Rayon Griffith took 5 for 26. The former national pacer received support from Premchand Sookdeo, who claimed 4 for 19 for GNIC.

Chasing a target of 215 in 47 overs to win the contest, GNIC reached 179/5 off 33 overs.

Nicholson again led their batting with 71 while Griffith returned to hit an assertive 42 and Bourne contributed 32. DCC’s Cavell Reece took 2 for 19, Stoll 2 for 39 and Orlando Sturge 1 for 30 when fading light brought an end to play. At Thomas Road, Malteenoes slumped to their second consecutive outright defeat as Gandhi Youth Organzation (GYO) defeated them by 133 runs.

GYO won the toss and batted scoring 200 all out in 55.3 overs. Chris Deonarine made the top score 71 while Anthony Ifill and Wazir Mohamed both scored 29. Skipper Shaquille Williams grabbed 4-49 while Nicosie Barker claimed 2-4, and Seon Daniels 2-57.

Malteenoes, in response, fell for 107 in 30.5 overs. Kwame Crosse’s 32 was the only double figure score in the innings as leg spinner Kamesh Yadram took 6-37 for GYO.

GYO responded with 152/9 declared in 49.2 overs. Wazir Mohamed top scored with 41, while Ifill made 26. Shaquille Williams spun his way to 5-74 from 18.2 overs.

Malteenoes set 246 for victory, was bowled out for just 112 in 25.3 overs. Malteenoes’ only score of note came from Edward Burnett, who made 34 not out batting at number 11. Wazim Ali took 3-12 for the victors, while Yadram added another three scalps to finish with 3-51 for an eight-wicket match haul. Ifill chipped in with 2-20.
