No medals for Forde at Southern Games

Guyana’s `Little Kenyan’, Cleveland Forde, of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) failed to secure a podium finish after participating in the distance events on Sunday at the Southern Games, Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre, Trinidad and Tobago.

Forde placed fourth in the men’s 5000m from a field of 13 athletes completing the race in 16:10.73 seconds.

Barnabas Kirui of Kenya defended his title winning in 15:10.13 seconds while Silas Kisorio also of Kenya was second in 15:12.72. Canada’s Shaeed

Khan came third in 15:12.94 seconds.

Guyana’s Cleveland Thomas of the Running Braves Athletics Club placed sixth in the men’s 800m in 1:56.50 seconds.

United States of America Shrief Webb and Robert Novak were first and second respectively. Webb clocked 1:51.58s and Novak 1:51.92s.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Defence Force Clifton Sylvester took the final spot on the podium in 1:54.53 seconds.

Thomas will be looking to correct his mistakes when he competes this weekend at the Falcon Games to be held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.
