Third annual Brainstreet U15 cricket completion launched

The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) in collaboration with the Brainstreet Group, yesterday launched the third annual Under-15 tournament at the Malteenoes Sports Club pavilion Thomas Road, Thomas Lands.

Present at the launch were GCA president and former West Indies all rounder Roger Harper, Shaun Massiah, chairman of the Competitions Committee of the GCA, Lance Hinds, CEO of the Brainstreet Group, Deborah Mc Nichol, Secretary of the GCA and Mark Harper, chairman of the senior selection panel of the GCA.

Hinds, who is the driving force behind the tournament since it was launched two years ago said his company aims to bring out the best in the young generation academically and feels that cricket can be used as  a medium towards achieving goals of discipline and understanding of this endeavor.

Hinds’s company, which has been in operation since 2007, promotes online learning aimed at improving an awareness of the importance of education and the accessibility to learn, study and improve intellect.

The organisers  said that they are happy to have continued support from the local clubs, players, coaches and umpires.

GCA boss Harper said that the tournament aims at the development of young cricketers around the country and it helps to mould them in the right way and also to give them a keen understanding of the game as they grow from strength to strength.

The tournament will be played on a league basis and the team with the most points will be declared the winner. The first four top teams in the competition will advance to the ‘Cup Competition’ stages (semi-finals & finals.

Some of the teams competing will be Demerara Cricket club (DCC), Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO),Malteenoes Cricket Club, Georgetown Cricket Club(GCC) to name a few.

The winning team is set to receive $60,000 with $35,000 for the runners up.

There will also be individual incentives for players, an MVP player award and a special award for the player who combines good cricketing talent along a positive  attitude towards the game.

The competition is scheduled to begin on Saturday and games will be played at various grounds across the country including Everest, YMCA, GNIC and GYO.
