Persaud, Matthias and Major interviewed by GFF Electoral Commission yesterday

The Electoral Commission set up to oversee the elections of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) got down to business yesterday with the interviewing of candidates for the post of president of the GFF. The interviews were being conducted at the office of the GFF by the three commissioners: Chairperson Emily Dodson, Deputy Chairperson Mark Waldron and committee member Stephen Lewis.

Among those interviewed were presidential hopefuls Christopher Matthias, Aubrey ‘Shangahi’ Major and Ivan Persaud.
Matthias upon exiting the interview said he was asked by the panel of commissioners some basic questions such as his age, whether he had any criminal convictions and what was his involvement in the sport of football.
According to him he was satisfied with the process.

“I was happy again that the fight for a democratic process where the electoral process is definitely out of the hands of persons who might be prejudicial,” he said.

Another presidential candidate whom we spoke with was Major who said the process was good but that he preferred not to disclose some of the questions asked.

“But what I know is just look out for me as president of the Guyana Football Federation,” Major said.
Asked why he thinks he deserves the position of president, Major said his work was there for all to see.
“It’s not about fancy talk and flowery speeches, it’s about action and when you want to produce you got work hard. Talks don’t produce and that is what is going to make me the new president of the Guyana Football Federation.”

Apart from the three presidential hopefuls mentioned above, Alfred King, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport as well as President of the Guyana Referee Council (GRC) has also been nominated for the position.

Some of the other candidates for other posts that were interviewed yesterday were Rawle Adams and Akram Sabree who were nominated by the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) and Arron Fraser who was nominated by the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA).

Matthias was nominated by the GFA, Major by the WDFA, Persaud by the East Bank Football Association (EBFA) and King by the GRC. Nominations closed last week Friday.
