The Electoral Committee of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) will decide whether the Berbice Football Association (BFA) and the Guyana National Women’s Football Association (GWNFA) are eligible to vote on April 12.
That disclosure was made by acting GFF president Franklin Wilson at a press conference at the GFF head office yesterday.
“Actually that is something that will be dealt with directly by the Electoral Committee and you know that committee is up and running.
But it is something that falls directly within their purview and at the appropriate time they will be reporting on their findings and the eligibility of the associations to be involved in the electoral process on the 12th of April. So that is as much as I can say on that matter, but that is something that they are dealing with directly,” said Wilson.
Wilson said the GFF met on both issues and it was found that there are no constitutional reasons to revisit the proceedings over the outcome of the AGM of the GWNFA, but said that a meeting has been planned with the Berbice Football Association.
“So we are looking at that and as I said we are going to be meeting with the clubs in Berbice on Monday (today) to find a way forward, an amicable solution to the whole challenge that we are being faced with in the Berbice Football Association,” Wilson said.
Asked why the GFF could not address the two issues given that they were in breach of the GFF constitution, Wilson said, “we never went down the road of having an electoral committee, now the fact that electoral committee is up and running they will deal with that and will report to the nation at the appropriate time on who will be eligible and who will not be based on those same requirements.”
Both the Berbice Football Federation and the Guyana National Women’s Football Association (GWNFA) failed to submit financial statements at their AGM. In the case of Berbice they failed to submit statements since 2010 but presented a letter from the auditors stating that the statements will be available in May, one month after the GFF electoral congress. The women’s failed to submit a statement in excess of five years but managed to submit the minutes of meeting held in 2008. President of the women’s association had asked for a two weeks grace period to provide the financial statement.
