Final touches being put in place for Guyana Cup Fever

Excitement is at fever pitch for Sunday’s lucrative fourth annual Guyana Cup Fever horse race meet organized by the Port Mourant Turf Club in collaboration with Jumbo Jet Auto Sales set for the Port Mourant Turf Club ground. According to Chandu Ramkissoon, manager of Jumbo Jet Stables, over 100 of the finest bred horses are expected to compete in the nine race card which is held to prepare race horse owners for the Digicel Classic and the Guyana Cup, two biggest meets on the horse racing calendar.

Ramkisoon, organizer of the meet, in a telephone interview with Stabroek Sport said the final touches are being put in place for a successful meet, adding that over $20 million in prizes are up for grabs.

The most lucrative race will be the B and Lower feature event which carries a two million dollars cash prize for the winner with the second place and third place finishers expected to receive one million dollars and $500,000 respectively.

A $1.5 million cash prize will be awarded to the winner of the three-year-old race for horses bred only in Guyana and the Caribbean while the   event for four-year-old horses has a $1 million first place prize attached.

The E and Lower race will pay the winner $700,000 cash and the
three-year-old Guyana bred event, carries a $600,000 cash prize for the winner.

The G and Lower race has a $500,000 cash prize attached. The other races scheduled are H, J, K and L races which carries a $300,000 cash prize for the H meet and $200,000 each for the other three races.

Ramkisoon said among the stables registered are: Sheriff, Chris Jagdeo, Simply Royal, Elcock, Crawford, Jagmohan and Bacchus racing stables. Registration closed on Monday.

Jumbo Jet, one of the stables competing, will have over 20 horses competing in eight of the nine events.

Among the horses expected to compete are Grande Roja, Who won the Case, Marathon Man, Got to go, Serenity, Home Bust Baby, Appealing Harvest, It’s My Turn, Princess Alicia, Rosetta, Top of the Line, Captain Crook and She is so Special.
