Old Fort, Airbenders win in JFIS hockey

Old Fort Hockey Club, through first half strikes from Keon Evans and Anthony Cole, upset Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) 2-1 as the John Fernandes Insurance Service (JFIS) second division hockey league continued at the St. Stanislaus Recreational Ground, Carifesta Avenue yesterday.

Evans opened the scoring in the eight minute and Old Fort consolidated their position 21 minutes later with Cole etching his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 29th minute.

Going into halftime two goals down, the Bourda unit would eventually pull one back in the 51st minute through a Leonard George conversion.

Searching for the all important equaliser, the boys from Bourda would be denied by dogged defending by the Old Fort backline.

In the opening game of the day at 14:30hrs, Airbenders compliments of Samantha Fernandes 52nd minute effort, edged St. Stanislaus 1-0 to end the day’s encounters.
