GRACE ROAD, Leicester, CMC – West Indies stroke-maker Ramnaresh Sarwan stroked a half-century but fell to the day’s last ball to leave Leicestershire still well adrift of their target, on the second day of their Division Two County Championship game against Kent here yesterday.
The right-hander scored 54, a knock that helped the hosts to 250 for five at the close in reply to Kent’s 406. Opener Niall O’Brien top scored with 63 while Matt Boyce finished unbeaten on 53.
Seamer Callum Haggett has so far taken three for 57.
Leicestershire were cruising at 133 for one before Haggett initiated a small collapse which saw the hosts lose three wickets for 22 runs, to be 155 for four.
Sarwan arrived to prop up the innings in a crucial 95-run, fifth wicket stand with Boyce, that averted any potential crisis.
The Leicestershire captain faced 131 deliveries in 171 minutes at the crease, with the last of his ninth fours bringing up his half-century.
However, the new ball brought about his demise as he nicked veteran seamer Darren Stevens behind to former England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones, with two balls remaining in the day.
