Grenada wins revived Windward’s Football Competition

KINGSTON, St. Vincent, CMC- Grenada captured the revived Windward Islands Football Championship after a late goal from striker Denron Daniel gave them a slender one nil win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines here Thursday night.

Daniel, a prolific scorer in local tournaments, found the nets five minutes before the end of regulation time to ensure the Spice Boyz played unbeaten .

He had opened the scoring for Grenada to inspire a come from behind two one win against St. Lucia in their opening fixture.

Daniel has emerged as one of Grenada’s top scorers after leading his club hard rock to title honours in the country’s biggest tournament, the premier league.

The Grenadians needed either a win or draw against St. Vincent to secure championship honours in the tournament lasted contested in 2001.

The tournament was reduced to three teams after Dominica withdrew following a vehicular accident claimed the lives of national coach Kurt Hector and player Noran Jno Hop and left a third team member in serious condition in hospital.
