Jamaica brush aside CCC to make clean sweep of preliminary round

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Five-time champions Jamaica made a clean sweep of the preliminaries of the Regional Four-Day Championship when they defeated Combined Campuses and Colleges by five wickets in their final round match here yesterday.

Playing on the third day of the contest at Sabina Park, Jamaica stumbled to their target of 66, with opener Brenton Parchment top scoring with 22.

Jamaica were 47 for two but lost three wickets for 12 runs to stutter as victory loomed.

Slow bowler Nekoli Parris finished with three for 15 while leg-spinner Akeem Dewar picked up two for 24.

Earlier, CCC were dismissed for 152 after resuming the day on 94 for four.

They were undermined by leg-arm spinner Nikita Miller who captured six for 33 to claim the Man-of-the-Match honour.

Off-spinner Jamie Merchant supported with three for 36.

Only Chadwick Walton, who top scored with 30, showed any will to resist the rampant Jamaicans. The right-hander faced 54 balls and struck four fours and six in an innings lasting 75 minutes

He put on 32 for the seventh wicket with Dawayne Sealy (14) before falling lbw to Merchant.

Jamaica finished top of the standings on 72 points from their six matches while CCC were left one from bottom on 12 points.

In the semi-finals starting Thursday, Jamaica host fourth placed Trinidad and Tobago while Windward Islands, who finished second on 60 points, entertain third placed Barbados at Windsor Park in Dominica.
