Jamaica triggers Guyana loss in Fullbore contest

Jamaica shot their way to the West Indies Fullbore short range title by defeating arch-rivals Guyana on Thursday at the Paragon range in Barbados.

The Guyanese,  defending double title holders  retained the Milex Long range title Wednesday but failed in their bid to hold on to the short range title shot at 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges on Thursday.

Jamaica clinched victory with 1116 points and 58 V-bulls beating into second place the Guyanese who recorded 1103 points with 68 V’s, Trinidad and Tobago  placed third  with 1090 points and 68 V’s, Antigua/Barbuda  fourth with 1036 points and 34 V’s and Barbados  fifth with 1013 points and 33 V’s.

Guyana’s captain Mahendra Persaud won the Wogart Trophy after he recorded the best aggregate of 145 points with 10 V’s in a great display of concentration.

Persaud shot 48.1 at 300 yards, a perfect 50.4 at 500 yards and 47.5 at 600 yards.
Ransford Goodluck shot 144.12 with 48.4 at 300, 47.4 at 500 and 49.4 at 600.
Lennox Braithwaite shot 142.13 with 48.4, 47.4 and 47.8.
In the long range match on Wednesday, Braithwaite shot 91.5 out of a possible 100 points, recording 45.2 at 900 yards and 46.3 at 1000 yards.

Goodluck shot 90.6 scoring 46.3 at 900 and 44.3 at 1000, while vice captain Dylan Fields shot (44.2, 45.1) 89.3, Dane Blair (44.1, 44.2) 88.3 Leo Ramalho (42.1, 45.1) 87.2, Sigmund Douglas (45.2, 41.1) 86.3, captain Persaud (42.3, 42.2) 84.5 and Assistant Commissioner of Police retired, Paul Slowe (41.1, 42.3) 83.4.

Guyana totalled 349.15 at 900 yards and 349.16 at 1000 yards for an aggregate of 698 with 31 V’s.
Meanwhile, four Guyanese were named in the West Indies 16-man squad to compete in the Australia Cup match tomorrow.

Reigning regional individual champion Lennox Braithwaite, Ransford Goodluck, Mahendra Persaud and Leo Romalho were named in the squad at the completion of the regional team matches.

The other members of the squad are Norris Gomez  and David Rickman (Trinidad and Tobago), Jose Nunez (Jamaica), Marlon King (Barbados), Anderson Perry (Antigua/Barbuda), Canute Cole (Jamaica), Ezekiel Joseph (Trinidad and Tobago), Wayne Mc Nair (Jamaica), Tommy Greenaway (Antigua/Barbuda) and Valarie Newman (Jamaica).

The Team will be captained by Guyanese Paul Slowe who will serve as a non-shooting captain but will perform duties as coach along with Jamaican John Nelson.

Slowe was named captain last year following the West Indies championship hosted by Guyana.
The West Indies team will practice today to select the final 10 shooters to contest the Australia Cup match tomorrow which will feature Great Britain, Australia, Canada and Channel Island.
