New Silvercity Secondary, Christianburg Multilateral to contest ‘Screw’ Richmond final

New Silvercity Secondary and Christianburg Wismar ‘Multi’ Secondary will contest this year’s final of the Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial U-19 Linden Schools football championship at the Wisburg Secondary School ground, Linden today.

The two teams will meet after disposing of their semifinal opponents in the home and away matches which were also contested at the only football playing ground available in Linden at the moment.

In the first legs of the semifinal matchups held last Tuesday, New Silvercity Secondary edged Linden Technical Institute (LTI) 1-0 through an O’neil Gentle strike whilst Harmony Secondary needled Christianburg Wismar ‘Multi’ Secondary by an identical score line through a Kurd Johnson effort.

In the return legs held last Thursday at the same venue, Christianburg Wismar ‘Multi’ Secondary bounced back to defeat Harmony Secondary 2-1 through goals from Yannick Simon and Marleque Davidson, thus advancing by the away goal rule with the aggregate locked at 2-2.

New Silvercity booked their spot in the final after drawing their return encounter 1-1 with LTI. Shaquille Alexander scored for New Silvercity while Shaquille Clarke leveled proceedings for LTI. New Silvercity advance compliments of a 2-1 aggregate.

Ernest Joseph, Chairman of the Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial Foundation based in the United States of America is among officials who will be here for the presentation at the final this afternoon.

Several individual prizes are up for grabs this afternoon including the top goal scorer, best defensive player and best goal keeper prizes in addition to the winning trophy and medals and the runner-up prizes.
