Bad weather pushes back Fruta U-13 football

The Fruta Conquerors Football Club’s under-13 Competition which was scheduled to commence from tomorrow at the Tucville Community Centre ground has been rescheduled to Saturday, June 8th due to the inclement weather.

Fruta Conquerors Secretary Daniel Thomas via telephone stated the postponement was due entirely to the weather which has significantly affected the playing surface.

He further stated that the reason for hosting the event was that while tournaments are being contested at the school level, not every institution will be invited.  Thomas posited that this occurrence translates to talented club players being excluded because their respective schools do not have a team.

“We have a large pool of players in this age group who have been practising for the last five months but have not been competing in tournaments. Currently a lot of tournaments are being played at the school level but no tournaments are being contested at the junior club level. That’s one of the reasons we decided to run it as junior football must also be run through the clubs”, added Thomas.

The tournament which will be played every Saturday and Sunday at the aforementioned venue will feature 10 teams competing in a league format. Each club will face every other participating team once.

Three points will be awarded for every victory while one point will be earned for a drawn result. The side with the most points at the conclusion of the tournament will be crowned the champions.

The competing clubs are Pele FC, Western Tigers FC, Santos FC, Fruta Conquerors FC, Renaissance FC, Alpha United FC, Riddim Squad FC, Northern Ranger FC, Camptown FC and Georgetown Football Club (GFC).
