G/town records four wicket win over East Bank

Georgetown recorded an easy nine-wicket victory over East Bank yesterday in the first match of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Inter-Association Under-17 40-overs-aside tournament at the Everest Sports Club ground.

Yesterday’s match was reduced to 23-overs-a-side due to the weather.

Playing their first match at that venue, East Bank were bowled out for 64 in 19.3 overs with medium pacer Carlton Jacques bagging four wickets.

Dextroy William’s 25 which included two boundaries was the highest score for East Bank while Shamar Graham and Samuel McKenzie picked up two wickets each.

In reply, Georgetown raced to 65 for the loss of one wicket in 16 overs. They lost the wicket of Joshua Ram for 10 but the pair of Tevin Imlach (26) and Sherfene Rutherford (21) both playing sensible hands, took their team across the line with wickets and overs to spare.

In a post match interview, Stabroek Sport caught up with the young Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) seamer Jacques who said: “The pitch was flat and very difficult to bowl on, so I had to bowl consistently and use full lengths.”

The competition continues today with two games.

East Bank will take on East Coast at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary while Georgetown will look to continue their winning ways when they battle West Demerara at Everest.

Games start at 9:30 hrs.
