Tutorial looking to turn the tables on New Campbellville

Tutorial High School’s female team will looking to turn the tables on New Campbellville Secondary when the two sides meet today in the final of the  Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools football tournament at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

New Campbellville had previously defeated Tutorial 1-0 in a preliminary round encounter but head coach Andel Bethune attributed that defeat to the fact that his side was forced to play with only seven players.

“Two of our defenders were not well and at that time we were not at full strength,” he explained.

For today’s encounter Bethune said that the girls are pulling out all the stops and were doing the necessary drills to enhance their play and technique despite having to train on a concrete surface in the school’s compound.

The players, he added were enthusiastic looking forward to playing against New Campbellville, adding that this time the team will be at full strength.

With defending champions, North Georgetown Secondary out Shekela Fraser Team Captain of Tutorial told Stabroek Sport that their main aim is to claim the Georgetown title.

Fraser said the players are focused and ready.

“We are ready and we have been practicing very hard. The players are focusing on the main aspects of the game,” she said.

The match commences at 11:00hrs.

Meanwhile, a new development has transpired in the male segment. According to coordinator, Lawrence Griffith, Christ Church Secondary was disqualified from the tournament after a protest was made by the defending champions, Lodge Secondary School who claimed Christ Church had fielded a player who was over the stipulated age.

Lodge secondary had been beaten 1-4 by Christ Church.

The competition, which is in its second year, is an U15 tournament and the rule states that players must be born on or after January 1, 1998. Griffith said upon investigation it was revealed that one of the Christ Church players was born in 1997 which will make him 16 years-old in July.
