Guyana Wado Ryu Karate Association stages successful tourney

Over 40 students successfully participated in the Guyana Wado Ryu Karate Association’s annual junior karate one–day championships held last Sunday at the Banks DIH Sports Club at Thirst Park.
Karatekas from schools from Eccles, West Bank Essequibo and Thirst Park participated in the competition.

In the age 6 to 8 years Mixed A division, Sierra Evans beat Jeremiah Headley into the runner up spot while Armand Khan placed third and Towana Success, fourth.

The 6 to 8 years Mixed B division saw Kaleem Majeed securing first place with Matthew Beharry second,  Shamar Prince, third and Sadelle Britton fourth.

Joshua Campbell placed first in the boys 9 to 11 years age A division  with Shay Britton second, Leonard Garraway, third and O’Neal Lawrence fourth.

Shamar DeGroot was the winner of the boys’ 9 to 11 B division while Kristoff Persaud finished second, Darren Babb third and Amir Majeed fourth.

The girls’ 9 to 11 division was won by Shania DeGroot from Jamaicy McAllister and Alicia Benjamin.

The males 12 to 15 years mixed division saw Lennox Brummel taking first place with Godfrey Lawrence second, Samela Britton, and Simeon Campbell fourth.

President of the Guyana Wado Ryu Karate Association and Chief Instructor, Sensei Winston Dunbar supervised the entire tournament.

The tournament was sponsored by Banks DIH Limited and Communications Manager, Troy Peters, congratulated the participants for displaying excellent skills during the one-day competition.
