Young Achievers edge PMTC

Top Demerara Volleyball team Young Achievers edged Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC) yesterday at the National Gymnasium as the Guyana Volleyball Association commemorated the observance of World Olympic Day.

Squaring up against Young Achievers in the feature match of the GVF’s day of volleyball the PMTC squad, which included injured national player, Quacy Matheson (who put on a courageous display of skill) eventually fell short of the challenge as they lost to Achievers by a mere six points.

Both teams were missing key players, PMTC, owing to examinations some of their players were undergoing today still managed to play well with a second string team while Achievers lost a few players due to migration and also included a few new faces which stepped up to the challenge.

President of the GVF, Lenox Shuffler said the games were highly competitive despite the lack of experienced players and thanked everyone who came out to participate in the activities.

President of the Berbice Volleyball Federation (BVF), Gregory Rambarran said: “The Olympic day activities were good for all sports and I’m glad to see that players from all walk of sport coming out to be a part of this observance”.

Both Presidents from the GVF and BVF said they look forward to more high level performances from their respective county teams as they move forward into the federation’s programmes.
