Dick powers Craig Secondary to 3-1 defeat of St Cuthbert’s

Craig Secondary, through a first half double by Joel Dick defeated St. Cuthbert Secondary by a 3-1 score line as action in the Digicel/Powerade National U18 Schools football championships continued at the Grove Community ground yesterday.

With soggy conditions underfoot, Dick would open the scoring in a fortuitous manner through a 20th minute effort. Intercepting an intended back pass for the St. Cuthbert center back, the stocky forward would easily tap home the ball to the lower left hand corner to give his side the lead.

Building on his earlier goal scoring success, Dick would complete his brace through a 29th minute strike. Receiving a peach of a through pass from the right flank, Dick would clinically finish his right footed strike to the lower left hand corner.

Tevin Millington would further consolidate Craig Secondary’s position with a 46th minute strike to the bottom right hand corner.

Julio Ferreira would, however, pull one back for the St. Cuthbert side compliments a 68th minute conversion.

Picking up the ball in the center of the final third, Ferreira would evade two defenders through his silky footwork before unleashing a ferocious strike that struck the left upright and nestled into the back of the net.

Over at the Beterverwagting Ground, East Coast Demerara, Annandale Secondary powered by a Stednon Martin hat trick in the 29th, 40th and 84th minutes blanked Institute of Business Education 5-0.

Travis Glasgow and Jamal December added to the victory with goals in the 31st and 38th minutes correspondingly.

Patentia Secondary, piloted by a brace on either side of half time by Stephon Carrol in the fifth and 69th minutes, defeated La Grange Secondary 5-2 at the Den Amstel Ground.

Osamo Parris, Linden Morgan and Osworth Somerset contributed to the victory with strikes in the 42nd, 63rd and 68th minutes respectively. On target in a losing effort were Reshawn Simpson and Kevin Harris in the 36th and 50th minutes respectively.
