Mc Donald, Gafoor to battle in national scrabble c/ships final

After three days of keen competition, defending champion Abigail McDonald and Moen Gafoor will battle on Saturday in the final of the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) national championships at the Bank of Guyana Roof Garden.

The two Mc Donald and Gafoor emerged as the top two players following last weekend’s Courts sponsored qualification tournament which ended yesterday at the same venue.

Mc Donald, who entered yesterday’s final day in second position ended up winning the qualification tournament with 19 wins and a spread of 2951 to Gafoor’s 18 wins and spread of 3955.

Fred Collins was third with 18 wins and a spread of 2761. McDonald lost to Anand Mohair by a spread of 133 while Gafoor suffered three defeats to Collins, Devraj Deonarine and McDonald.

Gafoor lost by spreads of 156, 48 and 91 to Collins, Deonarine and McDonald respectively. The finals will begin at 1pm and the winner will represent Guyana at the World Championship in Czech Republic.
