Jamaica trounce Leewards by five wickets

BON ACCORD, Tobago, CMC- Opener Saad Ahmad scored an unbeaten half century to lead Jamaica as Leeward Islands crashed to their second straight defeat in the Regional Under 17 tournament on Wednesday.

Ahmad hammered the Leewards bowling to all parts of the ground to reach 71 from 138 balls that included three fours and a six as the Jamaicans completed a five wicket victory.

Jamaica got to their target in 44.3 overs, scoring 157 for five, after Leewards were bowled out for 151.

Earlier, Leewards sent in to bat, slumped to 21 for two after only the fifth over.

However Saeed Williams and Kasey Carty came together in an 86 run partnership that averted a middle order collapse.

Williams hit 44 runs from 95 balls in a knock that included four boundaries while Casey hit one less boundary in his score of 43 from 69 balls.

But once the partnership was broken it was a steady procession of batsmen back to the pavilion.

Leewards collapsed from 107 for two as the last eight batsmen were removed for the addition of only 44 runs.

Gareth Henry, Salmon and Abhijam Mansingh all finished with three wickets.
