…in Digicel U18 football

Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) came from behind to defeat Dolphin Secondary by a 6-3 score line in their Georgetown Zone quarterfinal encounter as action in the Digicel U18 Secondary Schools Football Tournament continued at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary yesterday.

Jamal McPherson would open the scoring for the Woolford Avenue side through a second-minute lobbed shot over the goalkeeper from 30 yards away.

Dolphin Secondary would level the score in the 11th minute through a Joshua Perreira right-footed strike to the bottom of the left hand corner.

Lavar Baptiste would give the Broad Street unit the lead in the 16th minute from a beautifully placed lobbed strike from 25 yards out on the left flank.

Dolphin Secondary would increase their lead to two goals compliments of a Toquan Clarke penalty conversion in the 26th minute following an infringement in the foul area.

However dynamic forward Randy Layne would cut the deficit to one goal from a well-taken 40-yard free kick from the left side of the field that nestled perfectly into the top right-hand corner of the net.

Parity would be restored to the encounter as Layne completed his brace in the 48th minute following a right-sided corner kick. GITC would retake the lead in the 61st minute through a Jamal Williams header from a right-sided Layne corner kick.

Williams would complete his brace in the 84th minute compliments of a right-footed strike unmarked in the six-yard area following a fumble by the Dolphin Secondary custodian from a cross from the right flank.

Poor goalkeeping would conclude the fixture as Colwyn Daniels etched his name on the scorer’s sheet with an
89th-minute 50-yard effort that comically bounced over the Dolphin shot stopper.

With the win, GITC advances to the semifinal round where they will face Queen’s College
