Best lifter Morgan aims at world record

Despite smashing the Men’s 83kg Pan American deadlift record and earning the best lifter award at the Caribbean Powerlifting Championships for the fifth consecutive year, Randolph ‘The Accomplisher’ Morgan did not achieve what he wanted to but is aiming to do so later in the year.

Morgan who returned on Sunday from the two-in-one (Caribbean and Pan American) Championships which concluded in Orlando, Florida, USA last Saturday, is focused on breaking the world deadlift record that he unsuccessfully attempted at the Commonwealth Games slated for New Zealand in December.

“Right now I am looking forward and focused on breaking the deadlift  world record at the Commonwealth Games” ‘The Accomplisher’ told Stabroek Sport yesterday.

“I wanted to break the world record at the Pan Am Championships which was 345.5kg, (761.5 pounds) but I was not ready last week but I think my next meet I will be successful”.
At the two in one championships, Morgan recorded a total of 835kg en route to lifting gold at the Caribbean and a silver medal at the Pan Am segment behind world number four and Pan Am best lifter, Jose Castillo.

On his way to silver, the 37-year old, five- time  Caribbean champion still managed to break the Pan American deadlift record set by Castillo minutes earlier (325kg) with a lift of 330kg.

His podium worthy performances also enabled Guyana to retain the Caribbean Men’s Team title.

Guyana’s arguably most decorated powerlifter mentioned that if some of the hiccups which he did not want to disclose were avoided  all of the Guyanese lifters would have done better despite a massive medal haul of  seven gold, six silver and four bronze medals.

The Commonwealth Games record holder thanked Fitness Express, the Government of Guyana and Amal Khan of Basic Foods Distributors for making their sojourn in Florida possible.
