Coleman narrowly misses century against Leewards

AT EGSC MOLINEAUX – Tristan Coleman stood tall for Jamaica on Day 1 but would have felt unlucky to fall two runs short of a deserved century.

The Leeward Islands won the toss and elected to field first, and Jeremiah Louis gave them the early breakthrough of Odaine McCatty.

However, Leroy Lug found a good partner in Coleman and both took the score to 77. Lug hit 51 from 64 balls in a knock that included seven fours and a six. He was one of three half-centurions on the day.

His partner in Coleman would be player of the day, hitting a solid 98 from 106 balls. Coleman batted for all of 217 minutes, hitting eleven fours and two sixes. Brandon King also hit an even half century for Jamaica, his knock coming from 77 balls. Other than those three, no other batsman crossed 20 on the day. Shavon Moore and Shaquille Martina both finished with two wickets each as Jamaica closed Day 1 on 263/7.
