AT WARNER PARK – Trinidad and Tobago fell down with the bat but then got up with the ball, all on a topsy-turvy Day 1, which ended with the Red Force in control. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, things didn’t go as plan for T&T.
By the end of the first hour, T&T were 61/4. Jerome Jones and Shamar Springer had done most of the damage at the top. Opener, Andy Gobin, played patiently for 23, but he couldn’t last any longer than 48 ball.
Player of the day, Vikash Mohan, hit a run-a-ball 32 as T&T limped to 158 all out in their first innings. But with Barbados looking in total control, Mohan picked up the ball and changed the course of the day’s play. T&T were four wickets down for 61 runs, Barbados were four wickets down for 25 runs.
Justin Joseph accounted for opener, Dario Boyce at the top, then it was all Vikash Mohan. The bowler got all the key Bajan wickets of Johnathan Drakes, Shamar Springer and Aaron Jones, to end Day 1 with figures of 3-23. Jesse Bootan had Carlos Maynard. Barbados are in real danger at 58/6, still trailing T&T’s first innings by 100 runs. If it’s any consolation, captain Jameel Stuart is unbeaten on 25 while Jofra Archer is with him on 3.
