Six member boxing team for twin island republic

A six-member team of pugilists will wing out to Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow to compete in a two-day Invitational Youth tournament which boxes off on Saturday.

According to president of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, Junior Henry of Forgotten Youth Foundation Gym (flyweight), Shaka Moore of Essequibo Boxing Gym (light bantamweight), Travis Hubbard of Harpy Eagles Gym (bantamweight), Quincy Boyce of GDF Gym (featherweight), Dwani Lampkin of FYF (lightweight) and Travis Fraser of Tiger Eye Gym (light middleweight) are the amateur boxers selected to represent Guyana.

Fraser will be using the tournament as a warm up as he will also represent the nation at the South American Youth Games in Peru, in September.

Ninvalle also told Stabroek Sport on Tuesday that:“The GBA will be placing a lot of emphasis this year on our youth boxers as a means of putting them on the road to the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil in 2016.”

He added that the amateur boxers were chosen after specific divisions were requested by the Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Association.

The Simon Pures, manager, Eustace Cuffy and coach Clifton Moore are scheduled to return on Monday.
