Suriname defeats Guyana at chess

Team Suriname defeated Guyana by three games to one to win the Chess competition of the Inter-Guiana Games ((IGG) at the Ocean View Hotel yesterday.

In the first encounter the two sides drew 2-2 with Sheriffa Alli and Anthony Drayton securing the wins for Guyana.

Subsequently the two sides battled to three more draws in the blitz format as the two teams tried to arrive at a winner.

Eventually Suriname prevailed in the fourth tie breaker by three games to one with Haifeng Su recording Guyana’s lone win.

The Guyana team featured Captain Anthony Drayton, Haifeng Su, Sheriffa Ali and Jessica Clementson against Surinamese team , comprising of; Captain Rosangela Dos Ramos, Manish Ramjiawan, Reyna Frijde and Kromosoeto Benaja.

Upon the conclusion of the match, Suriname skipper and match winner, Dos Ramos said: “It was a difficult game, but it was fun and exciting, Guyana is very competitive and the match was great”.

“We never lost but we were nearly beaten today”, the skipper jokingly added.
