Clarkston bags gold in U11 singles

Neaveah Clarkston won Guyana’s only gold medal of the individual singles competition as the eighth annual Pre-Cadet and Cadet championships concluded at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall last night.
Clarkston defeated compatriot Selenas Jackman  in the final of the girls U11 division  winning 11-8, 11-9 and 11-5.

In the boys U11 category both Tyriq Saunders and Nyron Bissu were defeated at the semi-final stage with Bissu losing to Brandon Lee Young 0-3 and Saunders going under to Messiah Walcott the eventual winner.
The boys U-13 saw Miguel Wong defeating his fellow Guyanese Khalil Ninvalle 3-0 to be the only local player going to the semi-finals in that category. He was then hammered 3-0 by Barbados’s Marcus Smith, who would later beat Dominican Republic’s Jesus Lazano 3-2 in the final.

The girls’ under-13 final was won by Jasher De Gannes who defeated  Idelsa Baez of the Dominican republic 3-0.
Earlier in the round Kristie Lopes went down to Baez 5-11, 5-11, 7-11.

Guyana ended the tournament with six gold, seven silver and 13 bronze medals.
