Netball Federation drafting new players from churches, schools

Newly elected President of the Guyana Netball Federation Lavern Fraser-Thomas says she plans to revitalize the sport and widen its pool of players by targeting youth from schools, churches and other social organisations.

Fraser-Thomas revealed these plans in a brief interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday. No stranger to sports, Fraser-Thomas won the Netball Federation presidency at its AGM held on August 3. As the new leader, she plans to give the sport a boost with some new blood drawn from churches as this is one group that boasts a large group of young women.

“There you have a lot of females and netball in Guyana is a female sport,” she said. Fraser-Thomas is also optimistic about drafting older and former netball players into this recruitment drive in the interest of the sport.
