GTTA names Edghill, Britton for South American Juniors

Top junior players, Chelsea Edghill and Shemar  Britton have been selected by the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) to represent Guyana in table-tennis at the South American Youth Games in Lima, Peru next month end.

Linden Johnson, General Secretary of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) told Stabroek Sport yesterday afternoon that the two racquet wielders were the best choices for the inaugural Youth Games.

According to Johnson, Edghill and Britton are currently training in the United States of America. Johnson also disclosed that Edghill, a Bishops’ High School student, had qualified for the Youth Olympics in China next year.

“Going into the Games she will be attending training camps with the first one being in the US which she is presently on,” he said.

The teenager is schedule to undergo another training camp after she returns from Peru in September.  Britton, one of the most promising juniors around, is expanding his experience in the sport with training camps during his stay in the United States.

According to Johnson, Britton attended a few camps with the ‘Lilly Yip Table-Tennis Camp being his most recent.

Stabroek Sport was also made to understand that the player also competed in a few club tournaments. Johnson is optimistic that the two promising players will produce good performances in Peru but stated that the task will not be easy as the other competitors are more experienced, adding that they have better facilities.
