T&T beat Windwards in warm-up for Champions League

ROSEAU, Dominica,  CMC – Despite an entertaining half century from Andre Fletcher the Windward Islands lost to Trinidad and Tobago by five runs in the first of two Twenty20 cricket matches at the Windsor Park Stadium here on Friday.

Fletcher’s 87 came off 53 balls which included eight sixes and four fours as the Windwards reached 148 in 20 overs.

His knock was the mainstay of the Windwards’ innings including a 63-run partnership with Ray Casimir. But when he was removed by Nicholas Pooran it was the start of the demise of the Windwards.

Rayad Emrit was the best Trinidad & Tobago bowler with figures of five for 16 off four overs.

Earlier, Trinidad & Tobago reached 152 for five, thanks to Evin Lewis (44), Jason Mhammed (39) and Denesh Ramdin (33).

The two teams met again yesterday in the final match of the two-match series.

Trinidad & Tobago are preparing for the Champions League T20 in India which starts in September 17.
