BK Western Tigers whip Fruta Conquerors 2-0

BK Western Tigers defeated Fruta Conquerors 2-0 in the opening fixture of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Premier League Georgetown Zone Playoffs on Sunday at the Tucville Community Centre ground.

goal in the 73rd minute through a moment of sheer individual brilliance.

Deployed on the left side of the field in the second half, the marauding full back upon cutting onto his favourite foot unleashed a thunderous effort from just outside the 18 yard area that gave Fruta Conquerors goalkeeper no chance as it nestled into the top right hand corner.

The West Ruimveldt giants would double their lead seven minutes later through a Randolph Wagner penalty conversion.

Awarded the spot kick following a clumsy challenge inside the area, Wagner sent the Tucville shot-stopper the wrong way as he buried his right footed strike to the left hand corner to seal the three points for his side.

Victorious coach, Calvin ‘Flu man’ Allen during a post match comment stated:”We didn’t play to our best. We were rushing the football in the first half.

Thankfully, I got them to refocus and we played better and more composed in the second period.

“We have to work on our consistency and be able to react faster with our performances. When we do that we will be even harder to beat,” added Allen.

Sampson Gilbert, coach of the Fruta Conquerors side in an invited comment said:”The team continued its impediment of not finishing. It is one area we are not accomplishing as a team. We are playing and defending well, we are just not converting our opportunities.

“We will take it in stride and continue to work as we are looking forward to qualifying out of this group,” added Gilbert.

In the other encounters, Camptown FC and Santos FC played to a nil-all draw while Riddim Squad earned three points after gaining a walkover from Pele FC.

Action continues tomorrow at the same venue with two encounters. In the opening game at 18:00hrs, Camptown tackles Western Tigers while in the feature contest at 20:00hrs, Pele FC will battle home side Fruta Conquerors.
