Powell hails series win as total team effort

BENGALURU, India,  CMC- West Indies `A’ skipper Kieran Powell has hailed his team’s 45-run win over India `A’ to seal the series as a “total team effort”.

Powell’s men won the third and decisive unofficial One Day match Thursday to secure the series 2-1.

“It’s amazing to beat India in India,” Powell told WICB Media.

“We played well and we deserved to win. It was definitely a total team effort… everyone played a part at some point in the game to get us over the line which was satisfying.”

West Indies `A’ lost the opening game of the three- match series before rebounding with victories aided by centuries from Jonathan carter and Kirk Edwards.

“When we came on this tour we were all excited and believed we could win. We got used to the conditions very quickly and performed well as a unit,” said Powell.

“After the first game we got to observe the Indians and we strategised and came out and executed our plans brilliantly.

”Powell was also full of praise for Edwards whose match-winning 104 secured the final match and the series.

“He gave himself a chance to bat deep into the innings,” said Powell.

“He knew that if he did so, he would go on to get a century. He did it and the other guys batted around him to get us to a winning score.”

West Indies `A’ and India `A’ will meet again today in the Twenty20 format.
