West Berbice hopeful as Albion missing key players

Berbice First Division T20

The first semi-final of the 2013 Universal DVD First Division T20 Cricket Competition held in Berbice between Group A winners Albion Community Centre and Group B runners-up West Berbice, is scheduled to bowl off tomorrow at Albion.

West Berbice will savour their chances on Saturday against a below strength opponent,

who history shows had dominated them over the years.

The absence of several key players like senior West Indies cricketers – Narsingh Deonarine and Veerasammy Permaul doing duty in India, West Indies Under-19 left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie currently doing duty with West Indies against Bangladesh, along with former Test leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, unavailable due to going overseas on urgent personal business, leaves a dent in the Albion line-up.

Their severely weakened spin attack will be spearheaded by off-spinner André Percival, a former national cricketer, as well as off-spinner Verapen Permaul, Sharaz Ramcharran, who recently represented the Guyana Under-19 team against Bangladesh, David Latchaya and leg-spinner, Avinash Wajib.

Their batting will be led by former West Indies batsman, Sewnarine Chattergoon, who is also a reliable leg-spinner in his own right, former Guyana T20 batting star Jonathan Foo, former Guyana U-19 batsman, Kandasammy Surujnarine, current national wicket-keeper/batsman Anthony Bramble, along with Ramcharran and Percival.

West Berbice for their part will be coming with a strong pace bowling attack against Albion whose batsman were never usually free flowing against quick bowlers. Leading the attack will be national fast bowler Keon Joseph, former West Indies pacer Brandon Bess who has done well in recent matches and seems determined to make a comeback, former Guyana Under-19 pacer, Roun Johnson, the steady medium fast Wrendel Bobb, along with veteran medium pacer Keith Fraser.

In the batting department, Fraser has been their most consistent batsman of late and West Berbice will pin their hopes on the form of former Berbice batsman, Artley Bailey, Andrew Dutchin and former Guyana Under-19 batsmen, Raffel Estriado and Sherwin McPherson.

The teams are: Albion Community Centre – Sewnarine Chattergoon (Captain) Kandasammy Surujnarine, Jonathan Foo, Anthony Bramble (Wicket keeper) André Percival, Sharaz Ramcharran, David Latchaya, Balchand Baldeo, Verapen Permaul, Avinash Wajib, Satesh Dwarka, Adrian Sukhwa, Shivnarine Shirkissoon and Narendra Permaul; and West Berbice -Krishnadat Ramoo (Captain) Keon Joseph, Wrendel Bob, Brandon Bess, Roun Johnson, Andrew Dutchin, Keith Fraser, Raffel Estriado, Artley Bailey, Quacy McPherson (Wicket keeper), Sherwin McPherson, Christopher Bissoon, Grisean Grant and Rajbance Hemraj.
