Rosignol United defeat Western Tigers after penalty shootout

Rosignol United edged BK Western Tigers in a penalty shootout (3-0)  following a 2-2 score at the end of regulation time when the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Premier League continued on Sunday at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda.

Joel Singh denied tame spot kicks from Hubert Pedro, Randolph Wagner and Orvin Milton to clinch the bonus point for his side after Delroy Fraser and Tyson Carmichael had netted for the winners in the ninth and 67th minutes.

Etching their name on the scorer’s sheet for the West Ruimveldt giants were Dwayne Ali and Hubert Pedro in the 32nd and 60th minutes correspondingly.

Utilizing his searing pace in the opening half, Fraser almost broke the deadlock in the third minute following a counterattack from a corner kick.

Evading the last defender while cutting into the centre of the field from the right flank, Fraser would strike his right-footed effort narrowly to the side of the left post as the Western Tigers goalkeeper Derick Carter advanced.

Racing down the centre of the park, Fraser would receive a perfectly lobbed pass from marauding left side winger George Simmons just before lobbing the onrushing Carter to the top right hand corner.

The West Ruimveldt side almost levelled the score in the 17th minute through Randolph Wagner.

Running onto a forward pass that beat the offside trap from the left side of the box, Wagner would be denied brilliantly by Singh in a one-on-one situation as Singh dived hands first to Wagner’s legs to smother the danger.

Tyson Carmichael almost doubled Rosignol’s lead in the 26th minute, striking the left upright with his right footed shot from inside the left side of the penalty area.

Western Tigers would equalise four minutes later through a right footed shot from midfielder Ali. Latching onto a poorly punched Phillip Rowley left sided cross by Singh, Ali would take an initial touch before thumping his effort into the top left hand corner.

Wagner almost pushed the Georgetown unit into the lead in the 43rd minute, lobbing the onrushing Singh from the left side of the box, only for his effort to be acrobatically cleared off the line by defender Clifford Campbell by a bicycle kick.
The second period would start a frenetic pace as Rowley forced a diving save from Singh to his right in the 46th minute with a left footed drive from 21 yards out.The West Ruimveldt side would take the lead for the first time in the game through a moment of brilliance by Pedro. Driving into the penalty area from the left flank, Pedro would open up his body before placing a gem of strike to the top right hand corner that gave Singh no chance.

Their lead would last only seven minutes though as Carmichael found the back of the net.
Slipping the ball through the legs of centre half Solomon Austin, the nippy wideman, upon cutting into the box from the left side, stabbed home his right footed shot under the leg of Carter. Winston Benjamin almost won it for Rosignol in regulation time in the 77th minute, right footing his effort just over the crossbar from 13 yard from the goal.
