HPC survives destructive bowling spell to claim victory over Jamaica Under-23s

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre defied a destructive spell of fast-medium bowling from Nicholson Gordon to clinch a three-wicket victory over the Jamaica Under-23s in their four-day match on Thursday here.

Chasing 106 for victory, the Sagicor WIHPC were left reeling on 65 for six, after Gordon snared 5-41 from 10 overs on the scheduled third day of the match at Sabina Park.

But hometown kid Andre Creary, a graduate of the Sagicor WIHPC, held his nerve to score 27 not out and take the visitors over the finish line.

Earlier, Dalton Polius pouched 4-68 from 22 overs with his uncomplicated off-spin, as the Jamaicans were dismissed for 225 in their second innings.

Ronsford Beaton supported with 2-25 from 10 overs, Quinton Boatswain grabbed 2-30 from 11 overs and John Campbell snared 2-36 from eight overs.

Garth Garvey hit the top score of 77 for the home team, but it was Paul Palmer that propped up the bottom half of the batting with 55 from 89 balls that included eight fours and one six.

Members of the Sagicor WIHPC were given this chance to provide evidence of what they have learnt over the last few months of training.

It was the highlight of a one-week tour of the island that also included a two-day match against the Under-23s and formed part of the overall development of the players.
