False start!

Overnight showers forced the first round of the Raj Singh Insurance Brokers and Trophy Stall sponsored Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Over-40 20 overs-a-side competition to be abandoned because of water-logged venues.

As a result of the showers, the proposed playing venues were rendered unfit for play resulting in the abandonment. According to a press release sent by the DCB, points will be awarded to the teams in accordance with the playing conditions.

After a long gap the competition has being reintroduced and has so far attracted immense interest from the four constituted areas in Demerara. Several former national players have been selected to participate and have been distributed quite evenly between the teams.

It is expected that a strong Demerara team would be selected to oppose their counterparts from the other Counties at a later date at the County level.

Weather permitting; the second round is scheduled to bowl off tomorrow. All matches will begin at 13:00 hours with each round playing four matches playing at the same time at the respective venues.
