Alpha United routs Grove Hi Tech 6-1

Alpha United routed Grove Hi-Tech 6-1 compliments of a Manasseh Primo hat trick when action in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Premier League continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda on Sunday.

Primo found the back of net in the 20th minute with a simple tap in inside the box after collecting a long ball from winger William Europe to cancel out the East Bank side’s opening goal in the 15th minute from John Matthews.

He would grab his brace in the 41st minute with a well placed effort to the bottom of the net after the ‘keeper inadvertently knocked the ball into his path.

Alpha would double their lead two minutes into the resumption of the second period through an own goal as an attempted clearance by the central defender was inadvertently sliced into his own net.

Primo would then complete a deserved hat trick, slotting home from the penalty spot in the 50th minute following a clumsy challenge from behind inside the area on forward Gregory `Jackie Chan’ Richardson by the right fullback.

Richardson would add his name to the scorer’s slate in the 57th as he executed a perfectly placed lobbed shot from inside the right side of the penalty area over the advancing Grove custodian, after being played in by a Sheldon Holder lobbed through pass.

The skilful forward would complete his double in the 78th minute as he powered home a header into the roof of the net from inside the centre of the 18 yard box after collecting a well directed Dwight Peters right sided cross.

With the seconds ticking away, the East Bank unit would be awarded a penalty two minutes later for a rash challenge inside the box from an attempted clearance by the Alpha backline.

Tasked with taking the spot kick, Lloyd Matthews would see his second effort sail narrowly wide of the left upright after being given a second opportunity from the spot, due to custodian Richie Richard coming off his line before the ball was struck to deny his initial effort.

At the No.5 ground in Berbice, Rosignol United defeated Winners Connection 4-2. Delroy Fraser led the Berbicians with a double in the 19th and 72nd minute while Delroy Ferdinand and Horace Coach added to the score line with goals in the 39th and 47th minutes respectively.

On target for the losers were Odean Bovell and Rawle Gittens in the 66th and 90th+3 minute correspondingly. In the second matchup, New Amsterdam United edged Riddim Squad by a 3-2 margin.

Kelvin Joseph led the way with a double for the winners in the 51st and 78th minutes following Delroy Dean’s opener in the 14th minute. Netting for the losers were Stephon Hope and Devon Jeffers in the 27th and 58th minutes respectively.

Over at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground in Linden, Den Amstel Porknockers edged Silver Shattas 6-5 from sudden death kicks from the penalty mark following a locked nil-all score line at the end of normal time.
